Was at these shows. Yikes. Some otherworldly Hunter S Thompson shit going on this night. I’d tell you, but you’d never believe it. And Kang don’t get mentioned much, but his fiddle on Watchtower was freakishly good....

Yes indeed, this Watchtower is truly epic. Absolutely a must have. A note, it sounds like Warren is the lead on this song, not Kimock. I don't know this for a fact, but it sure sounds more like Warren's style.

Phil at the Greek, first Grateful Dead music there since '89, to my knowledge, plus Phil went to Berkeley. I flew out from Michigan for these shows, after watching the recent setlists at the warfield blow my mind. Got tix to the Greek, went with two buds, stayed in Sebastapol the night before and saw Barry Sless at the Brewery play wheel with David Nelson Band. At that point, I didn't really know about Zero or Kimock, just that kids had racks and racks of tapes Kimock like I collected the dead and jerry. I was amazed at the west coast secret or so it seemed to me. I had a great time at both of these shows, the first was definately Warren's night, with the second night Kimock owned it. I had seen so many pictures through the years of the Greek. Read stories. The show didn't dissapoint. The only St Stephen of the summer sessions tour started out things nicely. The eleven jam following was heavy as well without lyrics, of course. the Mts of the moon is where Phil spells it all out for everyone. He is masterful in his approach on this. The watchtower was a blow out. The tons of steel was soundchecked earlier that day, as we heard from another who claimed it was "vinces new tune". I wasn't much of a fan of this one through the years and I don't know why. The end of it has the sweet jam proclaiming, "Oh, I want to go down slow, oh oh whoo hooo!" And now whenever I hear an old recording of this one with Brent/Phil, I dig it. Unbroken Chain was awesome, my last one was Vegas 95. This arrangement is way more stretched out than the deads. At the time we thought it was just a Kimock jam, but what actually is Kissing the boo boo... was awesome as well. Cold Rain is arranged how jerry sang it, not the way Phil sings it now. I thought it was awesome with the "run me, out in the cold rain and snow" lyric over and over at the end. The encore was awesome a blowout version, with raunchy warren on lyrics. Solid show to say the least
